Children have a need for time like this. It gives them the chance to escape, to experience feelings and to deal with life’s irritations. It will help your child to excel at school or become first rate at sport. He will also enjoy identifying with characters from films and books. Your child is simply learning how to experience his own reality. Which is why you must respect his quiet “alone” time.
It is important to give him time to daydream and to play before he has to face up to the reality of the adult world. Sooner or later your child will discover this reality. He will stop believing in Father Christmas by himself. There’s no need to hurry things along, life’s difficult enough as it is….
