Leave those blackheads alone!
Arrrghh! Blackheads … they’re a nightmare for millions of teenagers. And most young people can’t resist the urge to squeeze these open comedones. Yet, without realising it, they are making a serious mistake.
These blemishes have nothing to do with acne. Acne is a skin condition that causes inflammation. Blackheads, on the other hand, are greasy clusters that block the pores of the skin and become black on exposure to the air. And dermatologists advise us not to touch them.
It is important to follow their advice because the germs on your fingers are likely to cause contamination and this will encourage infection which will then leave a scar. So, resist the temptation and don’t squeeze your blackheads. The most you should do is try removing them after dilating your pores with a steam bath or holding your face over a container of very hot water, with a towel wrapped around your hair. You can then use a blackhead remover of the kind available from pharmacies.
