Gardasil vaccine being “closely monitored” following deaths
The European Medicines Agency ( the EMEA) has been informed “of the death of women who had been vaccinated with Gardasil®, including two reports concerning the sudden and unexplained death of two young women in the European Union.”
One of these deaths occurred in Austria and the other in Germany. In neither case has it been possible to determine the cause of death.
At this stage, the EMEA has stated in a press release “that no cause and effect relationship has been demonstrated between the death of these young women and the administering of Gardasil®”. For the time being the Agency believes that “the benefits of Gardasil® continue to outweigh its risks.”. It nevertheless points out that it is going “to continue to monitor the safety of Gardasil® closely, (and that it will take action) if any new details arise that might bring the benefit-risk relationship of Gardasil® into question”.
