Advice for enjoying a trouble-free pregnancy…

[8 June 2011 - 18h00]

Being pregnant is not an illness, and if all goes normally there is no reason why you should stop enjoying a reasonable amount of exercise… such as swimming, walking and even cycling up to the second trimester. In fact, keeping active and in good physical shape will help when it comes to giving birth!

But exercise in itself is not enough – you also need to eat a balanced diet. It’s a well-known fact that good health begins with what we eat and for pregnant women this means a plate of green vegetables rich in vitamin B9 – also known as folates or folic acid. It is very important to eat enough of this during the two months prior to conceiving and then throughout pregnancy.

Why? Because folate deficiency can lead to serious abnormalities in the foetus. Folates can be found in most green vegetables and these will also provide you with a good amount of iron, which is very important in preventing anaemia.
